SERRC offers out-of-school and after-school programming with an educational focus.

Children who regularly attend quality programs from 1-4 hours each week have:


  • Better attendance, grades and behavior in school (Durlak, Weissberg & Pachan, 2010)
  • Reduced initiation of drug use by 50 percent if they have participated in early childhood education and after school programs (James Heckman, University of Chicago, 2006)
  • Better relationships with students and adults
  • More academic and enrichment opportunities

The SERRC 21st Century Afterschool Program at the Dillingham Elementary School provides fun learning activities during out-of-school hours. The program serves to expand opportunities for children kindergarten through fifth grade in literacy, STEAM, health and movement, SEL and culture. The program offers parents and community members the opportunity to join children on their academic journey and nurture the future of Dillingham youth.

The program offers:

  • A focus on Social Emotional Learning
  • Physical activity
  • Attendance awards
  • Super Saturdays and Friday Fun Nights

The center is federally-funded and administered by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.
