Stories from Alaska Learning Lab Programs
From Julie Kelley - Akiak LSP
Alaska Learning Labs after school program has been a great experience for me, as a teacher, as well as, for my students. I have been part of this tutoring program for the past 4-5 years. The computer-based portion is individualized for each student, and starts with the level the child is at. As the student works the program, levels are passed and the lessons become more challenging. The extra materials, math games, writing journals, literature, and trivia cards provide learning fun whether individually, small groups, or whole group. We use it all! I have seen good progress for all the students who attend regularly. Most of all, the kids love it! I actually have a tough time getting them to go home when it's over! The snacks and incentive points for prizes are the frosting on the cake! We call ourselves "Kegluneq" and our slogan is "Hungry for Learning!
